Hotel Stairs, Paris

we run because we took the goods
our stomachs are full
we are oliver twist on a good day
we are honey sweet
safe from bear aggression

the wood is four hundred years old
it creaks
like a seventy four year old lazy boy recliner that still rocks
these stairs still rock
and we use them like a grandchild exploring

this is french alive
this is twenty two slash twenty eight years of american standard saying yes we can
and yes we did
take the cookie from the cookie jar
our bad

the outside is sunny frisky today
where will we play
i say
we just may
make it up as we stroll along singing a whistle tune subtly knew...
